Cobalt Digital appoints GDB International as Australian Distributor for video converter range.
(1/05/2008 12:00:00 AM)

G.D.B. International is proud to announce our recent appointment as the exclusive Australian Distributor of Cobalt Digital. Cobalt offers a wide range of high quality SD-SDI / HD-SDI format converters that could not be sourced from our existing suppliers.

There has been a significant gap in the market for SD-SDI / HD-SDI equipment. This demand has been driven by the introduction of cheap prosumer HD-SDI video cameras that have many of the features traditionally found on broadcast cameras at a fraction of the price. HD-SDI is quickly becoming the new television standard and the greatest demand is being driven by prosumer customers such universities, schools, community television stations, church media groups, small production houses, documentary makers and live event / conference customers.

New land speed record
(3/12/2007 12:00:00 AM)

New land speed record - recorded by nNovia Solid State QC Deck
The nNovia QC deck was at the heart of the on-board recording system used to record cockpit video for the 3 fastest motorcycle streamliners in the world. The 16 year old motorcycle land speed record of 322 MPH was broken twice with the final record being set by Chris Carr driving Denis Manning’s “7” streamliner. The history making event was recorded by the production crew from IGNITION 3 with a dozen cameras, three of which were in the cockpits of the streamliners.

A nNovia QC deck equipped with an Audavi 8GB solid state cartridge captured the video in one of the harshest of environments possible. At these speeds vibration from the engine and the chassis are so extreme that recordings from hard disk or tape are inadequate.

Head to Head: Two Noise-Cancelling

Head to Head: Two Noise-Cancelling Headphones
Review by James Turner, Computerworld comparing Able Planet's APH20 Clear Harmony Linux Audio headset to Bose's Quiet Comfort 3.  Saturday, March 03, 2007

Noise canceling headphones, long a staple of road warriors, are a golden marriage of technology and mathematics. By listening to the outside acoustic environment and then figuring out in real time what signals to generate to cancel out the noise, they can turn an airplane or a busy machine room into a relatively quiet place.

Bose first introduced noise canceling products for pilots, then later released their best-selling Quiet Comfort line of consumer headsets. But now several companies such as newcomer Able Planet are entering the high-end market.

Azden 1000 series defies Hurricane Katrina

Dear Azden,

I never had the chance to tell my story about using your wireless mic system during Hurricane Katrina.  Below is a link to the video clip using your product during the category 5 hurricane (the strongest level storm). It worked flawlessly thru strong winds over 100-mph and heavy rains. Whenever I am asked about what mics to use, I always highly recommend Azden.

The mic system went thru hell and back and it still works to this day. After Katrina I left CBS News to start my own company in Vancouver, Canada called Parrodoxx Pictures. I thought you could use this clip to show case the power and professional quality of your product.

Boxx Testimonial from Colin McDonald
(31/08/2007 12:00:00 AM)

Boxx Testimonial from Colin McDonald

"I have been using the-boxx for Sky Sports News, Soccer Saturday and other news and sports programmes for live-to-air transmission for the past six months. My company, Macdonald Broadcast Services Ltd, owns three systems and I have orders for more systems. I use it myself and hire it out to other operators.

The-boxx provides a stable, reliable link that is easy to set-up and operate, and costs about 25% of similar systems available on the market. It has an impressive range that easily covers an international football stadium.

I use for digi link for Sky Soccer Sat live, Soccer AM live, Fox TV live on the Paris riots and Sky Rugby and Cricket. I am also using it on the athletics for the IAAF in Monaco. In particular I have enjoyed excellent after sales service and I thoroughly recommend the system to all camera operators and producers."

"The MS-800 was a very easy to use solution in a very professional looking form and it worked extremely well for us over a very long production. We would have no hesitation in using it again in the future."

Shoot Review: Datavideo SE-800
(21/06/2006 12:00:00 AM)

Tom Patrick McAuliffe has done a fantastic review of the Datavideo SE-800 Four Channel Digital/Analogue Mixer.

" The functionality of a whole television control room, by and large, now fits into an affordable device that's the size of a small suitcase. The SE-800 is a four-input digital and analog video mixer that handles multiple formats. It allows you to mix multiple sources, enhance your video and audio, and add titles and special effects. "

" SE-800 ships with over 50 transition effects. All of them are smooth with no jaggies, as befits a hardware-based solution. However, they're mainly traditional, with wipes, reveals, and dissolves. "

The Boost Boys check out Datavideo's new DVK-100 Chroma Keyer
(19/06/2006 12:00:00 AM)

Keeping travel costs down, two of the founders of BoostDigital, checked out the sights on their recent road trip to the NAB2006 show in Las Vegas. And thanks to the clever people from Datavideo, the 'Boost Boys' also checked out Hong Kong and the UK with the help of the DVK-100 Chroma Keyer and a motorbike prop!

Download the video (3.99mb (4.185bytes) WMV).

The Boost Boys - Graeme Logan on the bike and Ian MacRae in the sidecar - were so pleased with the video that they put a copy on their website www.boostdigital.com. As Ian MacRae explains, their accountant was also impressed by the video...

"To impress the Boost accountant we told him how we'd kept travel costs down by using a motor bike and sidecar. He was very impressed with the video and wanted to know how we attached the camera to the front of the bike. (Seriously!)"

Datavideo Interview at NAB 2006
(3/05/2006 12:00:00 AM)

Datavideo Interview Image

The above video is MPEG-4 [2:00 minutes, 320x240, 470kbit/s @ 6.4MB]. Press the play button to start it. You may need Apple QuickTime, or another MP4 capable Player such as MPC or MPlayer to play the file. If the above doesn't work in your browser, use this link to download/save it and play it at a later time.

The video is an interview conducted at the NAB 2006 trade show. Scott Shepard interviews John from Datavideo USA on a number of new products from Datavideo. John and Scott talk about:

  • DVK-100 Chroma Keyer [we do not recommended using DV input for Chroma keying, as PAL DV reduces the colour resolution to an unacceptable level];
  • The new unreleased SE-900 eight channel video mixer (while showing the SE-800 four channel mixer); and the
  • CG1-00 Character Generating software with BlackMagic DeckLink Card.

Update: The signal flow diagram for the DVK-100 Chroma Keyer and Motorcycle demo that is featured in the video interview has been released. Download it here (PDF 54kb)

From all accounts, it was a great show. Well done Datavideo!.

New Datavideo DAC5 and TLM-70D
(20/12/2004 12:00:00 AM)

The Datavideo TLM70D has just been reviewed in the January 2005 issue of Camcorder and Computer Video Magazine.

"Consider this unit if you were, say, making a documentary film or an independent production where it was important that you see everything in the monitor that the camcorder was capturing. With the camcorder connected to the TLM-70D (via FireWire) at the same time that the recordings are taking place, you as a director can get a very accurate picture of what's being recorded. This is especially critical if you're shooting in the 16:9 widescreen mode. It's also extremely useful in playback. No unexpected suprises will greet you in post-production."

Matrox certifies nNovia QuickCapture 'direct to disk' portable digital video recorders for use with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro realtime video editing platform

Montreal, Canada, August 2, 2004 - Matrox Video Products Group today announced the completion of compatibility testing and certification of the nNovia QuickCapture family of products for use with the Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro and RT.X10 Suite realtime video editing platforms. QuickCapture and QuickCapture A2D are designed for ENG and professional videographers to record "Edit-Ready" clips directly to an internal hard disk from any DV or analogue camcorder, thus eliminating the "capture" step typical in nonlinear editing workflow.

"The combination of one of the QuickCapture products and RT.X100 Xtreme Pro saves time and money," said Stephen Albanese, Matrox senior product manager. "Video files are instantly available in the native Matrox AVI format. The user simply connects either QuickCapture or QuickCapture A2D to their RT.X100 Xtreme Pro via 1394 cable, then drags & drops the content into their Adobe Premiere Pro timeline to begin editing."
